Sage Mediation is pleased to announce that we have entered into a formal agreement with the Center for International Investment and Commercial Arbitration (CIICA) to jointly promote international mediation and raise international mediation standards in Pakistan. With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a Training Collaboration Agreement on 22 July 2020, Sage and CIICA have established a strong foundation for many forthcoming mediation projects in South Asia.
Based in Pakistan, CIICA offers arbitration, mediation and a wide range of other dispute avoidance and resolution services. CIICA works closely with international ADR experts and researchers to support the continual reform and modernisation of Pakistan’s legal framework for international ADR.
Sage is honoured to share in CIICA’s vision. The concurrent signing of the Training Collaboration Agreement shows our commitment to promote the use of international mediation and improve mediation standards in Pakistan. We have already planned a Strategic Mediation Skills Workshop (SMSW) to exchange our knowledge of international mediation best practices. The SMSW will be rolled out very soon and will be an opportunity for Sage’s Singapore and global mediation advisors to take part in the rapid developments of Pakistan’s ADR sector.
As the Singapore Convention’s entry into force approaches on 12 September 2020, this collaboration is timely. Pakistan is an important member of SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) which covers the most populous geographic region in the world, and which has historically been a focal point of much of global trade. It is widely anticipated that Pakistan will sign the Convention in the near future and Sage is glad to have found a trusted and like-minded team in CIICA to amplify our efforts in advocating for more disputes to be efficiently and amicably resolved.
This MOU shows Sage’s continued development as one of Asia’s leading mediation service providers and there is no doubt that the partnership will spur CIICA and Sage’s quest for excellence.
